In addition to designing a new website, Varve Studios worked with the Great Basin Center for Geothermal Energy to create a logo that communicates the organization's goals and activities.
The logo symbol is inspired from classic cross-sections of the Earth, from the core to mantle to lithosphere. In this case also illustrating from heat sources to surface. Similarly, the classic layer-cake layout is related to stratigraphic principles. Faults are also a significant source of geothermal energy in Nevada, so the symbol was offset accordingly. Lastly, the tapered overall form is derived from an exaggerated basin cross-section.
